shiroyama house

The initial vision for this project came from our clients desire for a large, open plan and an overriding need to create an outdoor space. This 750sm, 3 story house accommodates a rare hilltop site in central Nagoya and takes advantage of its perched location. The J – shaped plan allows all of the main living spaces of the house to focus both onto more intimate views of the Japanese garden on the southwest corner of the site and to distant views to the north and east. The traditional western shed roof form is here rendered in metal and sculpted to both enclose the house’s major public areas and to symbolize the design’s unique modifications to Western and Japanese traditional residential patterns.
